Denmark is committed to combatting human trafficking through its adherence to a number of international conventions. These conventions oblige member states to prevent human trafficking and to protect individuals who have been subjected to trafficking or are at risk of becoming victims. Countries must also ensure a well‑structured national response, human‑rights‑based approach and clear allocation of responsibilities between the authorities and NGOs.
Internationally, procedures for responding to human trafficking are referred to as a National Referral Mechanism. In Denmark, we have chosen to use the term national guidelines.
Therefore, each country must outline its national processes for identifying, supporting and providing services to victims of human trafficking. Persons who may be affected by trafficking must always remain at the centre of attention in these guidelines.
